The Nursery Reveal
Planning a nursery for a baby we didn't know who they were or when they were coming or [let's be honest] how many babies there would proved to be a little challenging. We didn't plan on decorating the nursery until we were closer to being placed, but then we had to put a picture of it in the photo book to show birth moms... and I was kind of freaking out. So we staged the minimum we could for a picture (and borrowed a few things), and then we continued to put the nursery together over the next few months of waiting, and finally put [a lot] of finishing touches after we brought the girls home - including adding another crib!

Below is a closer look of the nursery photo- we shiplapped the wall and bought the crib, but everything else in the photo was either borrowed from someone else or somewhere else in our house! I just couldn't imagine having a whole nursery finished and walking past it every day while we waited to bring home a baby. I'm so thankful for friends who helped us stage this cute little area!
We ended up using a lot of the same elements and themes, but we had to switch it up a bit with the surprise of twins! Plus, I definitely wanted to add in a few girly accents once we found out it was twin GIRLS! But I still wanted it to be pretty neutral, so we stuck with the grays/whites/dusty pink theme.
I wanted something personal above each crib, so I reached out to my extremely talented friend Meredith with Oaks & Gray Paper and she came up with these custom beauties! We decided to do a large canvas print with dark gray letters and a peachy-pink washed wooden frame - I LOVE how they turned out! Then I made the garland with some greenery my mom had given me and some fake flowers from Michael's/AC Moore - easy, peasy!
We found the prints from Hobby Lobby and the frames and changing pad from TJ Maxx. I was so excited when I found the changing pad because instead of being one of those ugly white plastic ones, it was cute and neutral - and I didn't have to worry about getting a cover for it - plus you can just wipe it off if it gets dirty (which happened A LOT)! We also used our sweet Jellycat bunnies and Maileg baby twin mice as decor.
You can't see the rug very well in the photo below, but it's a round Safavieh cream shag rug, and it's one of my favorite purchases we made - we have used it SO much and it's held up great! I love having something soft to lay the girls on to read stories, change into pajamas, wrestle, and play on!
The dresser was an old wooden dresser that I chalk-painted and distressed. I love that it's on casters so it's easy to move, and it's the perfect size for their smaller room. I found 3-tiered drawer from the flea market and decided it would be perfect as a diaper caddy because the dresser is shorter and doesn't leave a lot of room beyond the changing pad. I chalk painted it gray and love the extra height it provides!
Below is a better view of the room - you can kind of see the white beaded chandelier from World Market in it - I love the soft whimsical light it puts off. We had borrowed the elephant hamper from a friend when we staged the photo, but loved it so much we put it on our baby registry and received it as a gift!
We were so blessed by another friend who gave us her old Restoration Hardware bedding she was getting rid of when we were staging the room for the book, so then when we found out it was twins, we were scrambling to find matching bedding! Luckily - did you know there's a Restoration Hardware outlet in Asheville (and they just so happened to be doing their annual sale when we went!?!)? Thank you, Jesus!
We found the curtain rods online at Bed, Bath, and Beyond and the linen pin-tucked curtains from TJ Maxx/Homegoods... Can you tell that I love that store?! I ordered the gray cordless roman shades (that are most importantly also blackout curtains) online from JCPenney.
I made the mobile with fabric pieces and an embroidery hoop (I plan to do another blog post on that later). And then I used that fabric to spruce up a macrame wall hanging as the final touch to the room.
I love this little nook in the corner of the room - we don't use the glider as much as we probably would have if there was only one of them, but it still gets lots of use (and I love getting to rock both of my babies at the same time!) We already had the lamp from Carolina Pottery downstairs, so I just moved it upstairs and paired it with the linen rocker/glider/recliner from (the defunct) Babies 'R Us. The pillow is from Magnolia home (TJ Maxx again) and so is the cream knit blanket (that is practical as a blanket, but also doubles as a protector for the light colored chair).
