History was made... and I watched.

While the title statement applies to pretty much everything that ever happens, I watched a significant event today.

My high school, for the first time in it's existence, won a Men's State Championship (in IL).

Playing a game in the rain against Maine South, they pulled it off, 33-13. It was a good game, too. Downers Grove North (my school) basically doesn't pass. Maine South basically doesn't run the ball. Today it was raining, and cold. Passing games don't work quite as well under those conditions.

It was cold, and wet, but quite fun to watch, and *I WAS THERE* :-)

Random bullets

  • I'm in Chicagoland now. It was a long trip, via Rolla, MO - to pick up my brother.
  • Another speeding ticket was obtained in my car. Fortunately my brother was driving at the time. I really need to get a digital speedometer calibrated.
  • It's snowing in Chicagoland. I'm here in a small rear wheel drive sports car. There's a problem with that.
  • I obtained a Subaru wagon for $100 last week. It still needs new rear drums, and it's only front wheel drive, but for $100, I'm not complaining. Pics soon.
  • End of an era: I went to a few computer stores today, and had zero urge to buy anything. I'm scared.

That's about it in Russland for now.

    ... I now own 3 cars.

And want to sell/get rid of one of them (the 'Ricer).

I picked up a red 1988 Subaru DL wagon (5 speed, FWD) tonight. It's in decent shape, but needs some work. The clutch currently doesn't disengage (driving it back was interesting), the brakes leak (the parts to fix it are in the car, just not installed - rear left brake actuator), and it needs a few other minor things (lifters tap, and the cam covers leak oil), but it moves, has a heater, has an interior, seats more than 2, can fit a lot of stuff with the rear seat folded down, and doesn't encourage speeding.

Cost? $100. Plus another $90 for a new clutch & pressure plate.

I'll get some pictures up tomorrow, when it's light.

    Failure

It's 3 AM. I have code from a Com Sci major that works "in theory." and "just needs a few bugs ironed out." It's due at 9 AM. I'm doomed.

"In theory" includes chunks of code that make zero sense, partition processors without ever referencing the total number of processors to partition, and happily correct the number of processors in one partition without bothering to change the number of CPUs in the other partition (when there's a fixed number to use).

"A few bugs" includes segfaulting when more than 2 CPUs are used.

Option D... fix the cell phone.

Obtain another Nokia 3360 that's having problems and no longer in use, swap the logic board (with all the service info & such) into the new body. Presto, working phone with functional LCD (and, as a bonus, a vibrate motor that works again).

Replace the phone, change cell phone plans, or abandon cell phones entirely?

My cell phone is dying. Actually, it's been dying for 2-3 months now, I've just put up with it. Now, the LCD is so badly cracked as to be nearly unreadable.

My US Cellular contract is up, so I'm just on a "month to month" basis... when I stop paying, they stop providing cell phone service (basically).

I'm paying $40/mo or so for unlimited nights & weekends, and 300 anytime minutes, regional.

    My options:
    A. Replace the phone with one off eBay, reprogram it to match my phone's settings, and continue as is.
    B. Get a new cell phone plan, hopefully cheaper, and with it a new phone.
    C. Give up on having a cell phone, and be basically unreachable.

Suggestions? I'm thinking A, but C is a good option too...

    I Photoshopped!

A picture of a friend's new car, a quick Google search or two, a photo of the 'Ricer, 10 minutes with Photoshop, and I've created the following:

It's not great, but I'm proud of it.
