Friends of the Iowa State Patrol

Woah! Long Hiatus... sorry about that!

Before i get started i just wanted to say that it is finally spring break, whoopee! I spent the last couple of days in Chicago for spring break where i pretty much confirmed it... yup, i love Chicago! We went sharing out on the University of Illinois campus where it was so heart breaking, yet such a good reminder of how many people do not know Christ. It just amazed me that so many people think that they know Christ, yet when you ask them how much percent sure they are that they are going to heaven, they say 75%. I wish they could all know that they could be sure! But i know that i can't save the world... not by myself anyway.

So to the story. Well, i had a very traumatizing experience today as i was driving home to Minnesota from Ames. Alright, let me first say that as i was coming out of Ames i was passing a semi on the interstate, as i passed, an Iowa state trooper came up behind me, and tailgated me until i was past the semi. And the kicker to that story is that i was going about 75 mph, so i was like well, i guess that they really don't care. So, i am just outside of Clear Lake when i see a cop car on the side of the road already with his lights on. I am going about 80 (15 over the speed limit) and decide that i should probably slow down a bit. Well, i thought that i had slowed in time, but apparently not. Then happened everyone's worst fear... his lights came on as he followed me, gulp.

Now, let me also say that i have never been pulled over, not in my whole life! I have speed through the boring landscape of Iowa many times, but have just never been caught. Well, he pulls me over, does the usual, i have to go back and sit with him in his car while he writes me up. Making small talk, among other things he finds out that i go to Iowa state, am on my break, and have just gotten back from a "missions trip" to Chicago. Somehow, i don't really think he believed me, but none the less he let me off with a warning, whew! I think that he was just really bored on a Wed afternoon and because there was really no one else around, decided to target me in my little red car. I am so glad that Iowa state troopers have nothing better to do!

As i left Mr. Trooper says, " Slow down, and this time i'll let you save your money to go on more missions trips to Chicago." SO the moral of the story, if you can't cry in front of the police officer to get out of a ticket, at least start a conversation about going on missions trips and he might let you off with a warning too...

Wow, it's a small world after all! I got stopped last year by either the same cop or one of his close buddies. My cop friend pulled me over when I was going about 37 in a 25. Man he was bored then too!!!
Anyway, he saw that I had golf clubs in my trunk and told me he'd just give me a warning cuz if he gave me a ticket I wouldn't have any more money for greens fees. Wow, finally a cop who realizes a stern warning is warning enough.

I think I have a contender for "All Time Best Story To Get Out Of A Ticket." And - it's true. I was traveling though a podunk little town going about 25 over (50 in a 25?) when I see this junky Chrysler Intrepid cop car sitting by the side of the road. BUSTED! I thought there was no way he didn't get me. Since there were a lot of cars behind me I just pulled over into an empty parking lot about a block away. I'm completely stopped by the time he pulls up to the road and gets his lights on. So he drives down to where I'm at and by the time he gets there I've got a map out. I wasn't trying to "play lost", I really was. Anyway, he gets all my stuff and asks me what I'm up to. I tell him I go to ISU, and I'm going home for my grandparents 50th wedding anniversery. He lets me off. :)
