Dear Diary,

Ah, the first real snow of the year. It reminds me of my childhood when I would sit hard at work (then at school, now at a job) and watch it slowly make it’s delicious descent only to melt away much to my dismay. But yet as if those early martyrs quest had not been in vain the ground cools enough for the onslaught not to have been futile and there remains a trace of wet white. As a child I longed for enough snow to make the first snowman, to sled the first hill and to win valor on the field of snow battles.

Has my child like devotion dimmed? Fervor and passion… their only recourse should be action.

(Quietly I stalk back into the world of real blog posts… will anyone notice?)

Our October Newsletter

The Rhythm of Life

Life here in Ames is starting to get into a rhythm just in time for midterms. In the weeks since my last letter we have taken the Rock Band on tour to four different locations around campus. It has proved to be a great way for Christ to gain recognition around campus and to let students know that truth can be found at the Rock.

Several other projects have been bringing Tom Short, a campus evangelist, to Iowa State and pulling off a couple
of fundraising garage sales. God has been with us and it has been exciting to see the results of our labor not only in
those around us but also in the lives of the new students that have jumped in with us this year. +

3,2,1… Encounter God

I organized and produced our perennial Encounter Fall Retreat for the first time this year. We brought together almost 300 students from around the Midwest to hear John Meyer from Ft. Collins, Colorado, speak on “Who was, who is, and who is to come!” John was strong on the intellectual reasons for the reality of God and how that should affect our lives, while emphasizing the close relationship that God calls us to.

We saw several people trust Christ for the first time and 13 or so take a step of faith and get
baptized. It was a really superb time. Many people commented to my team and I on how
they enjoyed it and how God used it in their lives to build their faith. +

Lifegroup

Here in Ames, we have small groups of just guys or just girls called Lifegroups. We meet every week and discuss the Bible, keep each other accountable and share prayer requests.

However Lifegroup doesn’t just end there. We get together for other fun activities, support one another in sport or in service projects and just strive to keep a close brotherly (or sisterly) relationship going.

This year my Lifegroup has changed a lot as we have multiplied from our former group and added a couple of new freshmen to the mix. It’s a lot of fun to study the Bible and share life with these young men. +
