What Stops You?

God has an agenda.

He wants to reach this world.

And he wants to use you to do it.

What is holding you back?

Could it be...

Fear.
Fear of people, fear of the unknown, fear of failure, fear of ridicule. That's ok right?

Discipline.
I know I need to do ___________ (evangelize, pray, read the bible, etc) but I just can't seem to do it very often or even at all. That's ok right?

or Sin.
I am a pretty good person and really God forgives me but I just can't get over this sin in my life. That's ok right?

I realize that this is the kind of post that doesn't get many comments. But my prayer is that you read it and it made a difference. In the way that you think first... ...then in the way that you act.

Comments

I'll post on it.

Lack of passion (see Kathy Hanson's latest post), I think is the root.

Lack of passion for the Lord, hearts unmoved by his sacrifice. If you had passion for the Lord you'd be able to swallow your fear, you'd make the choices necessary to be more disciplined and to overcome your sin.

Being unwilling to take risks is a big one for me. What if we hadn't talked to Tattoo? If we hadn't cared about him as a person, as someone more than a shot up, long haired, smelly, offensive, tattoo covered gangbanger? I don't think he would have gotten saved or moved to the suburbs to change his life...

On a side note, after dealing with Tattoo, that guy don't that hall shouldn't be so scary...we'll see...

Can I make a shameless plug? (It can be so depressing to go all day with nary a blog hit.)

I didn't mean to coordinate with you Paul, but I touched on this topic on my blog this a.m. in my post titled, "Hot Fudge for Breakfast."

I think what holds a lot of people back (including me) is that we don't honestly believe deep down that we can reach the whole world in our time. I've been thinking a lot about believing God for what I think is impossible. Too often I have the view that God sets the bar for us high (like reaching the whole world) but we can never reach it and therefore I never try.
