Anything but Idle
So does anyone know how to adjust the idle on my 94 olds cutlass cierra?
I am trying to become a do-it-your-selfer but haven't gotten up the ambition to buy a chiltons manuel.
If I can't find it online then I am in trouble...
It was pretty funny when I was changing my spark plugs with Matt helping me... We pulled off the ignition coils first... nope no spark plugs under there. :) We took it over to our neighbor Tony he didn't know what it was either... so then we called an auto parts store. They gave us the scope. My olds has a distributeless ignition so the plugs are buried on either side of the engine. A couple hours and about 9 spark plugs later I got them in. Probably saved myself a couple hundred bucks but the lack of skin on my knuckles showed the true price I paid. Chock one up for experience. It was fun.
Ok off to change my oil.

Well, it may be slower than looking on the internet, but the Ames Pulic Library (www.amespubliclibrary.org) has your chilton's manual available and on the shelf as of 4:38 on Wednesday afternoon. :)
Call number is 629.28 GM
Good luck!

This just goes to show...we all miss JBOX. But now that I no longer have the Shadow...*sigh* I guess it doesn't matter. I think being a "do-it-yourselfer" is a great thing. Even girls should know enough about their cars to change the oil and tires.

what did you call that thing again? The white mole or something...? :)

"I" didn't call it anything but a piece of crap..."you" were the one that named it: The Albino Mole. :-)

you should try this website, see if your problems are similar to someone elses on this site. They seem to know what they are talking about. If your idle problems started after you erroneously removed your distributorless ignition system and changed your sparkplugs, then that may be a good place to start looking for problems. A quick check would be to make sure all of the cylinders are firing properly with a timing light or a similar device that connects to an individual spark plug and gives you some sort of an indication of voltage crossing it into the plug, thus causing a spark a few degrees past TDC (top dead center), thus causing the air fuel mixture to combust, thus forcing the piston down, thus spinning the crankshaft, thus turning the timing gears, thus turning the camshaft, thus compressing the exhaust valve spring, allowing the exhaust valve to open, thus allowing the exhaust gases to be forced out of the cylinder as the piston is moving back towards TDC, allowing the process to start all over again. Anyway that should give you some places to at least start looking
