Black and White

This last week has been a dark one. I saw the sun I think once on tuesday afternoon and other then that not at all.

It seems like a movie or something. You know one of those movies with the rather artsy director that puts a cool glow on the screen like in minority report or decides to go retro and do it in letterbox (before dvds aka before letterbox was cool) like last of the mohicans or in black and white like schindlers list.

In fact this last week has been a very black and white week. All these subdude tones and grays. It has been a black and white emotional week as well with sharp contrasts and stark differences.

Wow a deer just walked by my window!!! There is life on this earth after all...

Ya, I know those weeks. Somehow, it seems to be dreary emotionally as well. Everything's just... subdued.

I know that joy isn't an emotion... it's just hard to be joyful when your emotions aren't happy. I mean, I know there's joy in the Lord; that a fruit of the Spirit is joy; and yet, I just feel subdued.

I've often wondered what a Christian is to do. I've heard of some that play music, sing songs, or read Psalms until they can connect with the joy.

What do you think?

I often feel the most Joy when I am subdued.

To connect with Joy I often remove myself from my everyday enviornment and seek God through nature or music like you mentioned. Sometimes I just need to have a real conversation with someone who cares..

Go outside right now and look at the full moon! There are streams of blue and silver clouds beneath it, and one planet is shining brightly enough to compete. The sky's dark and light and everything in between. God is the artsy director tonight.

Addendum to previoius comment. I pray you are okay and found someone to talk to who cares. I think it's safe to say that anyone who visits your blog and leaves a comment would care enough meet you in person if you needed to talk. This person included. Weeks like this one test the Joy, don't they? I pray that your Joy is still there, underpinning everything, even if the mood is somber and the circumstances are uncertain. I've found that I have to practice Joy ... it's the discipline of being aware of God with me no matter what.
