A Man whose Name was Job

Job was dang poetic for sitting in a heap and scratching his festering sores. I've had the flu for the past several days and am having to steal his stuff for lack of my own. I've been so dizzy that I can't walk across my apartment, much less speak pages of verse. Yet I'm not quite despairing of my life, so I guess I'm better off in that respect.

Anyway, here are highlights from the first ten chapters of Job. I hope to add highlights ten chapters at a time, and probably some of my own thoughts as well, until I finish up the book, so stay tuned.

After hearing that everything he owned is wiped out and his ten sons and daughters are dead:

At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said:
"Naked I came from my mother's womb,
and naked I will depart.
The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away;
may the name of the Lord be praised."
In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.

-1:20-22

Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble? - 2:10

I have no peace, no quietness;
I have no rest, but only turmoil.

-3:26

What strength do I have, that I should still hope?
What prospects, that I should be patient?
Do I have the strength of stone?
Is my flesh bronze?

-6:11-12

Therefore I will not keep silent:
I will speak out in the anguish of my spirit,
I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

-7:11

If I say, 'I will forget my complaint,
I will change my expression, and smile,'
I still dread all my sufferings

-9:27-28

I loathe my very life;
therefore I will give free rein to my complaint
and speak out in the bitterness of my soul

-10:1

Miriam's Song

Then Miriam the prophetess, Aaron's sister, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women followed her, with tambourines and dancing. Miriam sang to them:

"Sing to the Lord,
for he is highly exalted.
The horse and its rider
he has hurled into the sea."

-Exodus 15:20-21

She is woman.

Strong. Confident. Woman.

Prophetess. Worship leader. Woman.
