Pop Valentine Blues

Flipping through radio stations on the way home from work this evening, I catch a snippet of "Let Love In" on 106.7. Not a terrible tune, but fairly over-played. I scan down to 106.3, but catch the opening of the very same song. I snicker inwardly and hit the next memory button to jump to 102.5. Intro to the same song. Three metro radio stations, all playing the same piece of sugary pop fluff at the same time. I mourn the passing of quality material on the airwaves, and switch over to the CD player. As Mark Cohn croons to me, I thank the heavens for $4 CDs at the Goodwill.

If you hurry, from midnight until 3 AM, The Current (89.3, Minneapolis) is playing the best break-up songs of all time.

Of course, you can also stream The Current. http://www.mpr.org/thecurrent

(Ya, it's NPR, but contemporary music -- and their influences.)

It looks like our Hills have assembled to the Twin Cities area NPR landscape quite well. :-)

...not sure what I meant by "assembled." Perhaps "assimilated" is a better verb.

Adam, it's true. In addition to the three NPR FM stations in the TC (talk, classical, contemporary), we've also found an independent APM affiliate that plays mostly jazz.

That said, Kirsten still occasionally streams Midday from WOI, because it's just not the same here.

Speaking of cheap CDs, let me recommend Hastings' used selection. Also, if you're in for digging through all kids of random stuff, Mister Money can be OK.
Matt and I used to go at the end of every semester after we'd sold our books back.
