No Day Like Tomorrow

John Edwards was in Des Moines this evening for his campaign launch, and did a beautiful job of clogging up traffic out of downtown. On one of the streets by the capitol building, there was a guy holding an Edwards sign that read "Tomorrow begins today."

Now, let's pause to consider this statement, since it is one of the first of Edwards's campaign. Today can not, by definition, be tomorrow. Because if today was tomorrow, then it would be tomorrow, not today, and if tomorrow were today, then today would be today, because, by definition, tomorrow is tomorrow and today is today, and, by definition, it can't be today tomorrow or tomorrow today.

What's more is that Edwards is a re-run of '04, which means today seems a whole lot like two years ago. Not only that, but I bet that in a little less than two years, Edwards will be telling you that tomorrow begins on Election Day of '08, which means that tomorrow might not begin until two years in the future.

Way to kick off the road to '08, John -- lie to the American people in your campaign slogan.

I could say the same about Bush's visit to Minneapolis a few months ago.

And if we're discussing lies, we could talk about all of his.

Just making an observaion.

Oh what a marvelous, generic, anonymous, inflammatory comment. Yes, every politician messes up traffic. Bush does it when he comes to DM, also.
Where did lies factor in to that post again? And if we're talking about flatulence, we could talk about all of yours.
Just making an observation.

Thanks, nobody. I was going for a humorous post, but let's face it, the election is going to get brutal anyway, so let's just start the mud-slinging right now, among friends who apparently can't take a joke. Also note the tounge-in-cheek nature of the "lie to the American people" phrase.

Wow, pick a bone with one Blair and you get the whole clan fired up! Duly (sp?) noted. Do you know what this post reminded me of? When Jimmy Carter was at Olaf at the same time that my sister and mom were visiting and Melissa wrote "Love, Jimmy" on our whiteboards and NO ONE would help us change my flat tire because they were all going to see stupid Jimmy. Grr. So then that jogged the memory of when "The Reason" came on the radio one night and you grabbed a hairbrush and started serenading your Reagan poster above your desk. I believe the performance was followed up with a Diet Coke and an earsplitting belch that ecchoed down the hallway.
Musings brought to you by Kristin. Original entertainment provided by Megan. Thank you and good night.

Kristin, I am laughing so hard right now! Good times -- thanks for reminding me!

Posted by: Megan at December 30, 2006 11:47 AM

So wait, nobody commented, as did three others, with pat and megan responding to nobody as well? I'm officially confused.

Posted by: Ben W at December 31, 2006 02:10 PM

Maybe "nobody" is exactly who that is.

I would expect such disdain from the Ann Coulter fan club. She's taught her hate-monger minions well.

Are we all just a tad touchy because we're concerned about '08? Are the increasing odds of a godless-heathen liberal winning office putting everyone on edge?

Posted by: nobody at January 2, 2007 02:33 PM

All right. I hail from the "godless-heathen liberal" side, and I'm even laughing at that one.

Kristin's comments did warm me up though. :-)

Sweet, looks like I have a stalker from the Cities! Good ol' MN. But wait, I'm confused... if righties are hate mongers and lefties are godless-heathens... These comments are just too good to delete.

Posted by: Megan at January 2, 2007 09:11 PM

Know what? I just changed my mind. Grow a spine and start leaving your name, or be deleted from now on.

Posted by: Megan at January 2, 2007 09:16 PM

My name isn't really that important because you don't know me, but I'll use it just to make you feel better.

Not all righties are hate mongers. Most are rather civil. But we do have our breaking-point. In fact, I wouldn't even go so far as to call Dubya a hate monger-- I'll leave that type of extreme to Ms. Coulter and everyone, yourself included, who finds it necessary to admire her vile ramblings.

Olaf may have been long ago and far away, but people are slow to forget. You made a fool of yourself there and continue to do so now. Honestly, my dear, you were a laughing-stock. But, wait, you are probably proud of that fact...

Once again, Sarah, I'm tempted to delete your post since you have completely derailed my blog on some sort of personal vendetta, but I will leave it, because you prove my own point better than I myself do. And if you would have left your real email, I would be able to have this personal conversation with you directly.

Do you think I would have done what I did at Olaf if I cared what people there thought of me? I'm glad they haven't forgotten me, because it proves that a voice from the right is so abnormal in their little liberal haven that it shatters their universe. I've moved on to bigger and better things, but apparently they -- and you -- haven't been able to.

And before accusing me of being a hate monger, I would suggest reading your latest comment again.

Posted by: Megan at January 4, 2007 03:00 PM

Whos Ann Coulter? And whats with the I admitt both sides are bad, but yours is worse comments... whenever you get involved in politics you're guaranteed to be covered in mud no matter what position you take.

Posted by: Steve O at January 6, 2007 12:40 AM

Eh, don't delete comments. This just makes it exciting. I love how a whimsical, sarcastical post can so quickly turn.
Is anyone in either party really concerned about the possibility of a President Edwards? Just typing that makes me snicker.

Posted by: Pat at January 7, 2007 09:40 AM

Nobody put a gun to your head and sentenced you to four years at a liberal institution. If you felt so persecuted there, why did you stay? To challenge the philosophy? Don't move to Antarctica and bitch about the cold.

I'm not a hate-monger, I'm just fascinated by how misguided your angle appears to be. It isn't a liberal verses conservative issue-- it goes beyond that to what kind of person one decides to become. Kissing the ground that Ann Coulter walks upon is your decision, but you really should contemplate what that says about you as a human being.

Posted by: Sarah at January 7, 2007 12:23 PM

Sarah,

Again -- personal vendetta = leave an email so we can deal with this one-on-one. Why are you attacking who I am? Do you really know me? I highly doubt it. And if you do, that's all the more reason to talk to me in person instead of searching me out on the internet. Meanwhile, thanks for the opportunity to share more of my story in relation to St. Olaf College.

You're right on that I stayed at Olaf to challenge the philolosphy. If I would have known that it was 99.9% liberal before I decided to go there, would I still have gone? No. But once I saw injustice, I felt compelled to reveal it. You can't change the temperature in Antarctica, but you can open the eyes of students, faculty, and regents regarding the ideological bias of an institution.

I'm curious to know which of my angles you find misguided. Nowhere in the entry to which you are replying to I mention Ann Coulter, yet you keep bringing her up. How long ago did she come to Olaf? I've lost track, but I think it was pretty close to two years ago. And since then, I have had no contact whatsoever with her. So, if you have such a problem with her, why don't you leave nasty comments attacking her character on her website instead of mine?
