Good Deal

I rented Office Space last week to help me chill out about an upcoming presentation at work. It made me harder than I did the previous 10 times I've seen it, so I decided that I should own it. I stopped at Hastings (not the town in NE, but the book/movie store in Ames) to see if I could find a used copy. Unfortunately, there were only new copies for $15.99 each.

I headed towards the exit empty handed, but a big yellow sticker on The Interpreter caught my eye -- a used copy for only 7.99. I grabbed it, but couldn't leave just yet. A sign shouted that I could buy two used videos and get one more for just a penny. I started hunting for the movies that I could watch infinitely and never tire of. I found a copy of Sweet Home Alabama for 9.99 and dug up a copy of Moulin Rouge for 10.99.

My total at the register, however, came to about $30. I inquired about the deal advertised on the sign. The sales guy fished Moulin Rouge out of the bag and stated that it was a new copy, but he offered to void out the transaction so I could go back and search for a used one.

I came up with a used copy, but the price tag read $14.99. I pointed out the discrepancy at the register, and the sales guy gave me Moulin Rouge for a penny instead of the least expensive one! So I ended up getting three sweet DVDs for under $20. I still don't own Office Space, I guess I'll have to get three more another time.

Nothing of My Own to Give

I should know by now that God tends to answer my questions in generalities rather than specifics. His answers this weekend:

My excitement and anticipation should be over what God has planned for the kingdom, not what he has planned for me.

Whatever I do, I need to do it with boldness and with the confidence that I am following God in whatever circumstances I'm in.

"Epic" Thoughts

Here are some of my take-aways from the first Epic women's study:

*Just as there is so much more to this earth than we have seen, there is so much more of life in Christ than we have seen.

*Faith closes the gap between your theology and your reality.

*God wants to bless us, but he needs to trust us.

*Our definition of "blessing" may not coincide with God's definition.

*Joy = the fulfillment of our calling.

*Joshua told the people, "Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do amazing things among you." -Joshua 3:5

*No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. -Romans 8:37
Are you living as a conqueror?
