A first for me...

at 2.54am last night I woke up to three shot gun shots going off outside. We had our windows open and it sounded like they were in our neighbor's yard. I sat straight up in bed and Jason even woke up... so you know it was loud! I don't know if you have ever heard a shot gun, but they are loud. And they echo for a while after each shot. I have no idea what was happening, but my little brain was convinced that someone on our street was just murdered. I quickly asked Jason if he had locked all the doors and he said yes. And then promtly said, "It's fine babe," and went back to sleep. I however, was trying to convince myself that we were safe and then came to the conclusion that no one would use a shot gun to murder someone... it is just too loud. Therefore we were safe. I was dozing about 20 minutes later when two more shots went off. Ok, I was up for an hour now. I didn't call the cops, I'm not sure what I would have said. "Hi, um, maybe someone was murdered near our house, but I don't think so cause the loud gun is a dead giveaway, but i'm scared and our doors are locked, but could you come out at 3am and drive around in the dark just so I feel better?" Yeah, that is why I didn't call. But maybe I should have.

Maybe there is a dead bambi outside... yeah I like that idea better.

If I see someone get shot with a shotgun I'm not going to say "hes not dead... nobody would kill anyone with a gun that loud". Do you guys have any noise ordinances?

Crazy, dude. Just plain crazy. Have you seen anything weird today? Or did you ask your renters if they heard it too?

im sorry...

in hindsight that was a rather bad time and place to practice up on my clay pigeon shooting...

so i like guns, a lot...i have two and when we(me & my pops) get enough money from hauling scrap wire and junk i get another one. an interesting thing is we have two little .22 pistols that are around the size of your hand that are extremely loud for how small they are while our .22 rifle hardly makes any noise at all. the shorter barrel really makes a difference.

Calling the cops for shots fired is not an unreasonable thing.

Ya, in fact, I'd still call the cops, just so they have it on record that there were three gun shots at that location and time.

As Pat said, nobody has to be shot or a noise ordinance violated, as it's typically illegal (and just plain stupid) to fire a gun in a city if you're not at a facility specifically designed for handling bullets.

Besides, you never know what else happened that night, but there's a decent chance that the police might.

wow, crazy! I would still give them a call.

I remember the 1st time in DC when I realized all the firecracker that we being set off a good ways off weren't firecrackers...it is kinda crazy. Around here that is weird though, I would call the non-emergency line and report it. Even if it is crazy college kids, it would probably be wise for them to understand the your backyard isn't a good firing range.

so did you find out what was going on?
