F Y I

You probably shouldn't eat chinese and then go on a merry-go-round. Especially when you are old.

You can call me chuck and next time you see me, you can ask me what's up.

Advertising and Marketing

Last year we went to our cell phone carrier and requested a family plan for Jason and I to share. It turned out to be a rough time as the guy was telling us what we needed and trying to change our minds of what we walked in there and said we wanted. We just wanted the basic phone package, no bells and whistles and he just couldn't believe that we didn't want anything else. Finally, Jason firmly told the man that he was being pushy and we didn't want all of that and asked him to get what we needed. It was a little awkward for a few minutes, but eventually we had what we requested. As we were walking out of the store, the lady behind us whispered, "You guys were toally right in telling him that! He WAS being pushy." Oh well.

That brings me today. I recived a envelope in the mail from our cell phone carrier and it felt like there was a credit card in there. "What?" I thought. "No WAY they have their own credit card system...." I opened it and it was a letter from the same guy who helped us last year telling us of all the great new things that they are offering and that we should call him anytime and he could help us update our plan. First of all, apparently the guy doesnt' remember our first visit. If we did want to change something on our phones, we would not be going back to him. Second of all, he included 11 (yes, I typed 11) business cards in with that letter. Now, I will be the first one to tell you that I include my business cards in each of the candle orders when they come. And sometimes I include two cards. One for that person and one for them to give away.

But 11?????

COME ON! That seems a little over the top.

Needless to say, we probably won't be heading back to have Bob Miller* help us out!

A first for me...

at 2.54am last night I woke up to three shot gun shots going off outside. We had our windows open and it sounded like they were in our neighbor's yard. I sat straight up in bed and Jason even woke up... so you know it was loud! I don't know if you have ever heard a shot gun, but they are loud. And they echo for a while after each shot. I have no idea what was happening, but my little brain was convinced that someone on our street was just murdered. I quickly asked Jason if he had locked all the doors and he said yes. And then promtly said, "It's fine babe," and went back to sleep. I however, was trying to convince myself that we were safe and then came to the conclusion that no one would use a shot gun to murder someone... it is just too loud. Therefore we were safe. I was dozing about 20 minutes later when two more shots went off. Ok, I was up for an hour now. I didn't call the cops, I'm not sure what I would have said. "Hi, um, maybe someone was murdered near our house, but I don't think so cause the loud gun is a dead giveaway, but i'm scared and our doors are locked, but could you come out at 3am and drive around in the dark just so I feel better?" Yeah, that is why I didn't call. But maybe I should have.

Maybe there is a dead bambi outside... yeah I like that idea better.

2 Rohlf Women & the Great Bus Adventure!

This might be hard to believe, but I have never ridden the bus by myself. I remember once that my dad loaded all 5 of us kids on the bus in Ames to go to the mall to get my mom a Christmas present. Now, I'm not counting the school bus, but the kind that you have to show up at a certain time, figure out what route, what stops and how much it costs to ride. I didn't go to college so I didn't have the opportunity then either. To sum it all up, public transportation scares me to death. I don't know why. They all go in circles... so I would end up back at the beginning again. But I knew that if I tried it I would have to ask so many questins and then I would look like an idiot. However, today, I decided to take the plunge and take Belle on an outing downtown to the library. We packed up our backpack full of extra diapers, wipes, snacks, water, camera, bus $ and our library book to return. I was so worried about missing the bus that we had to wait 11 minutes near our house. Woops. I saw it coming and my heart was beating so fast. Mostly because I was hoping my child wouldn't freak out and I was trying to carry her along with the backpack and umbrella stroller. All the while boarding the bus, I was trying not to hit anyone with all my stuff and pay my way. Whew!! We made it. Belle was so cute and she did a great job. She didn't cry at all, but she was holding my arm so tight! (I had this funny thought about my parents when I was young. I trusted them so much, even if I was scared of something I knew they would take care of me. But then today, I think my heart was beating just as hard as Belle's. Yet I had to remain calm cool and collected and reassure my daughter that I was going to take care of her and protect her. I'm so glad God knows what he is doing with us!) Anyway, we made it downtown and I simply asked the bus driver where I should get on and what time and she explained it to me. We traveled down to Capanna and then to the library for a while. And we made it back to the bus stop with only 7 minutes to spare this time! I think we were actually on the bus on about 6 minutes each time. So I'm not sure it was worth the $.75 each way. However, it was a huge step for me and I think in the future we might pack a lunch and head downtown for several hours of play time on the jungle gym and at the library. But for now, we are home safe and sound and I have to go make dinner!

Bus!!! 001.jpg
(She only lasted about 10 seconds with me not holding her because of the loud noises and the lurching!)

Bus!!! 004.jpg
(Much happier in mom's arms! This was on the way home... so I wasn't near as nervous!)

Reason 4,857 that you shouldn't let "silence" last more than 8 seconds

when you have a toddler:

He/She might be drawing on several of your white kitchen floor tiles with her new blue crayon.

ARG.

However, I'm praising the Lord for LYSOL Kitchen cleaner. I sprayed it on, left it for 1 minute and it all wiped up just fine. I might add though, that in that short period of silence, Belle was able to "color" about 7 different tiles and as I'm making dinner I'm finding more! AAAHHHH!!!

'Just For Laughs'

Have you seen this new show? Oh my gosh... HILARIOUS! I do not remember a time when I laughed as hard as I did last night. It is on ABC on Tuesday nights at 7pm. We were gone, so we taped it. Yes, you read that correctly.... we taped it. No tivo here. Anyway, we got home around 8:15 and I spent the most glorious 45 minutes laughing my heart out. Now, I suppose I should say this. If people making complete fools of themselves doesn't make you laugh, you probably won't like this show. However, if you are like me and crack up if someone walks into a pole...then you should check it out!

Speaking of making a fool of myself... I did that last night. I totally biffed it at the Meyer's house. I didn't see that their bottom step wasn't as long as the first step and down I went. Thankfully they were across the street and the car was between us... so either they are very gracious and didn't say anything.... or they missed it! I have yet to ask them. My husband was also very sweet in finding out if I was ok. I was thinking, "I would be laughing quite hard right now" but he didn't. Just helped me up and asked me if I was ok. Then I went home and watched 45 minutes of people doing the same thing!

LOVE IT!!! :)

** there were a few of the situations on Just For Laughs that we were not a huge fan of the material... so it was nice to have it on tape to FF. **

HUGE.

Zuccini.jpg

Drum roll please.....

That zucchini was 3.9 pounds! Keep in mind that my child was only 5 pounds 12 ounces when she was born! We were gone for about 6 days and we came home and found 5 of them... but this one was the biggest!
