$3.59 for a gallon of milk!
And that was the generic version. I think it hit me yesterdayy... I'm old. I remember when gas was $.79 per gallon in high school. I remember since I have been married that I could buy whole milk (which is more expensive than skim) for under $3.00. That wasn't that long ago folks... about 2.5 years. AHHH! I know that gas prices have went up, but I think the rest of the world just snuck up on me a few pennies at a time and then WAAAMMOOO! It hits me in the middle of Walmart that "stuff" is expensive! Sometimes I wonder when I look at our budget how my parents managed to raise 5 kids on the money my dad made. Then I realize how much the cost of living has changed in the last 20 years and then it makes a little more sense. (Not that they didn't have to sacrifice or that it wasn't hard, but tthings have changed since then.....that's all I'm saying...really.... ;)
Anyway, I'm looking at this gallon of milk differently this morning at breakfast. Like, do I really need that much milk? Am I going to drink it all? I'm guessing this was all brought on by the fact that I'm learning how to coupon and shop for deals. It is a lot of fun and I"m enjoying very much. However, this week I scored toothpaste for $.50 per box and then I realize just how expensive toothpaste is. Probably $2-$3 per box....wow. How much am I overpaying for the rest of life.... makes you wonder....

isn't it weird that a gallon of milk can cost more than a gallon of gas! we just got back from hawaii and a gallon of gas was $3.27 but a gallon of milk was $4.99. a cheap loaf of white bread was $2.79! i guess in the land of corn and cows we just expect to pay less for these things, not so much anymore. i definately agree with shopping at aldi (i'd rather use the extra dollar somewhere else), but even at aldi prices are increasing.

The other day while in Atlantic, IA I paid $3.09 a gallon for both gas and milk!
I think I saw $2.94 at Aldi here this week for milk. At least as of last fall in Ames, Sam's Club had the lowest prices in town on milk, but if you didn't already have a membership, I doubt you could save enough to make it worthwhile if milk was the only thing you were saving on. Here, it definitely wouldn't be worth it because Sam's is six or seven miles away while Aldi/Target/Cub/Rainbow are only a mile away!

I just noticed this the other night too!! I can definitely remember getting gas for $0.88/gallon not too long after I turned 16, which seems like it was just yesterday, but really has been almost 10 years! I'm glad I'm the only milk drinker at the house, I can't imagine how much it would increase our budget if we were a family with a few milk drinking kids! And I did pass up milk with dinner last night. It's a little like liquid gold now :) Unfortunately, we live far enough away from Aldi's that it's definitely not worth it to drive down there for milk. Let me know if you come across any coupons for milk!

It's cheaper for me to just add yogurt to my cereal, so that is what I do now...

I noticed milk prices too! We get skim and it was $3.19, which is way up for the normal $2.79. I remember just last summer it was $2.39-2.59. It's only gonna get worse. Bummer dude.
