Make IT stop!

I was in the mall the other day. I went by American Eagle. Know what their sign said?

"End of summer clearance SALE!"

I got home and looked at the calendar and you know what day it was? June 21st... the first day of summer.

Then that night I went to Hobby Lobby.

They had their Christmas stuff out...

Anybody else notice this?

Oh yeah, I was in JCPenny on June 15th and it said "Back to school sale!" I think the little kids just got out of schoole about a week before!

AAAHHHHHHHH!

A love/hate relationship.

I LOVE black clothes! I think they are sleek and for some odd reason it is my favorite color to wear. I especially enjoy wearing black in the winter, know why? LONG SLEEVES! I can not handle short sleeve black shirts and deodorant. I have had it up to here. Maybe it is because my two favorite summer shirts are black, so every few days I am faced with the same dilema. Should I wear this top and subject myself and everyone else who looks at me to several white streaks on my shirt or leave my beloved shirt in the closet for another day???? ARG! Or maybe this little problem is hightened because my brother is getting married in two weeks and I have a black dress to wear. (HA! I thought about not posting this because everyone who reads this blog who is going to the wedding/reception will now be looking at my arm pits that night even though we haven't seen eachother for months! :) Oh well, I decided it would be worth the risk if I could get some help. Anybody know of any good deodorants that leave you feeling dry and are clear with NO white streaks? I have tried several and each one seems to do a good job at one thing and then horrible at the other. I was telling Mrs. Dub-ya and Mrs. Streeter about it today and they said to measure out what part of my arm is going to touch the dress and not put it above the line! Or rub it on sideways just enough to get what I need. :) Thanks guys. Anyway, if anyone has any tried and true secrets.... do share!!

My baby is growing up... *sniff*....

Belle has all of a sudden decided that she is old enough to take care of herself. Gone is the little girl who wanted her mommy to help her with things. Now she wants to put on her own shoes (regardless of the fact that I am trying to run out the door, she just sits quietly putting on her shoes for about 10 minutes!) and eat her cereal like a big girl. I didn't really see this coming, but WHAMO it came! I thought I was pretty smart when I didn't put milk on her cereal because then she couldn't make a big mess. Yeah, that lasted all of two days before she wanted milk. Darn. Then I put normal milk like I would put on my cereal and that was a huge disaster. I think it took just as long for me to clean everything up as it did for her to attempt to put the food in her mouth. (Imagine an 18 month old starting out with a small spoon with 8 cheerios on it and by the time it has reached her mouth and tilted to a 90* angle, she has 1 left!) Anyway, we are both learning through this stage. I am learning to relax and let her discover what she can do and she is learning that it is a very bad idea to have a meltdown if mom decides to step in and help a situation. :)

In other news, Belle is talking up a storm. Babbling all the time and yet each day it seems as though more words are understandable. However, we have reached another stage where some words she is saying don't sound anything like what she is trying to communicate. They sound like "bad" words. Bummer. Like yesterday I was in the basement and she was playing in the big room. I hear my daughter say (piss) and I quickly come around the corner to see what she is doing. (Jason and I do not use this word, so my only thought is that she learned it from her uncle John :) She keeps repeating the word over and over and I know she is excited about something but I can't figure out what. About a minute later I realize that she is trying to drag a giant bag (or tote) across the room and telling me it is her purse! Wow! What a relief! Anyway, I hear that this stage lasts for a while so we will see what else she comes up with. :)

Migraines.

Alas I have been intiated into the world of Migraines. I got my first one the night before Valentines Day this year. I thought maybe it was a fluke, however, I had another one last Friday so I think they are here to stay. I never really understood what people meant when they said they had a Migraine. I am still not sure what mine are- a severe headache- but does it qualify as a migraine? Should I just say Migraine just in case? These two headaches started out pretty weird. I get dizzy. The first time I was bringing some laundry up from the basement and thought I had just climbed the steps too fast. You know... how sometimes you get a little lightheaded if you get up too fast? Well, two hours later I was laying in bed and the room as spinning. It lasted until the next afternoon when I then received the most splitting headache I have ever had. Thankfully I was feeling like I had just gotten off a marigoround, but it was awful. Then again last week I woke up and realized that the room was spinning and wouldn't stop no matter what. I did learn however, and made an appointment with the chiropractor for that morning. My good friend Rach offered to drive me so I wouldn't endanger any drivers or myself. I got adjusted, but didn't feel better until later that day. But then Saturday happened and again a ring of fire headache all around my head. Not fun. And I am the type of person that is grouchy when I don't feel well, pour Jason and Belle. What a fun date night that was! Anyway, just a note to all of you out there who get these awful headaches. I am sorry I just looked at you when you said you had a headache instead of runnning for some ice and helping you put your feet up. You were not joking and I could have made your life a little easier. Another one of those things I just have to learn for myself. I tend to not believe people (ie jet lag, migraines, ect) until I have to cope with them. Then I think to myself... hey, they weren't kdding! Each time I discover something new like this, I wonder if I will ever learn and just believe people when they tell me about things. We will see if it will work. Like people keep saying parenting a 1 year old is easier then teenagers... hmmm. I think I will think about that one a little more next time before I jump in and say NO WAY! ;)

It was nice while it lasted...

but I think we are going to hold off on the potty training for the time being. Yesterday went so well, but I was not expecting that. Today, however, was nearly a disaster. After several accidents (with and without clothes on her bottom half) Belle has decided that she is scared to death of her potty chair. I have no idea what happened overnight- but the fun, games, stickers and treats are no match for her today. Jason & I talked it over and we are going to give her some more time and try this again. I wasn't completely sure I wanted to try it anyway, but I figured that I shouldn't be lazy and if she was ready to try, then I needed to be ready to roll with it. I think it is for the best. Thanks for all our faithful readers... I'm sure this subject will come up again sometime in the future.

Ps. I keep meaning to ask about this, but anyone know how to pick a good pinapple at the grocery store???

At the end of the day...

Isabelle used the potty 8 times today with only one accident all day! She gets a treat and a sticker every time she uses the potty, she has quite the collection on the fridge! Looks like we will be doing this again tomorrow... although I promise I won't post about 3 different times.

Potty training... the first day.... whew! we made it to the half way point!

Things did change some after the first hour. First, it took her a while to go again, so I "lengthened" my time in having her go. Bad idea, she went about a half an hour later and had her first accident. We did however, have another success before her nap time. So, that is 4 times going in her potty chair, 1 accident and 1 mom who is still smiling! Although my back seems somewhat sore from bending over so much to help her with her training pants. We will see what happens when she wakes up from her nap. I put a disposable pull-up on her and she didn't want anything to do with that. I think we were both toast. And here she is still sleeping two hours later. I managed to get a shower in and read for a while so I feel refreshed and ready to go for the next few hours until Jason gets home. Ps. Have I said how thankful I am to be parenting with someone else? I have so much respect for those who have to go it alone. Anyway, Belle's sticker chart is starting to fill up, we might post a picture of it later for everyone to see. Thanks for all the pointers and tips from my last post... I think I might try to impliment them as the day(s)???? go on.

Potty training... the first day... well, the first hour.

Wow, it is only 9:38 and we have a long way to go until the end of the day! However, it has been encouraging. I read the "potty party book" and it suggested taking a morning for your child to teach a dolly how to use the potty. And then rewarding the dolly with treats and stickers. That lasted all of 6 minutes. Then Belle wanted to try. Here is a timeline of our first hour!

8:24am- mom breaks out the potty baby and the potty chair
8:33am- Belle used the potty for the first time!
8:40am- Belle wants to use the potty again and we have our 2nd #2!
9:07am- three more tries... nothing more

The bright side of things, there have been no accidents...yeah!!! In the book it talked about how kids don't want to use the potty and they avoid it at all costs. My child, however, is different. She loves the potty. I think she would have sat on it the entire first hour reading a book if I would have let her! She keeps coming in asking to use the potty, sits there for a few minutes and nothing happens. I have the timer set for 15 or 20 minutes beteween each time, but there hasn't been too much action since the first 20 minutes. I think this might be the longest day of my life! No leaving the house and nothing that takes more than 10 or 15 minutes to finish.

Stay tuned for more updates.... that is if you wish to read about potty training in your free time! :)
