We were at the WRONG park at the WRONG time!

Lindsy bought Jason two Cubs/Cardinals tickets for yesterday's game at Wrigley Field for his birthday. Wow, were we (Jason is a long time Cards fan!) outnumbered. I made a decision yesterday, I don't like being the minority at these things. People are WAY too serious about this. Now, I know what it looks like to have passion and to have fun. But to be swearing at the other team's fans? That for me, is too much. It isn't a game anymore, it isn't fun, it is just downright rude and annoying. I asked Jason if I could tap the college guy (who had had about 4 drinks while we were there) if I could tap him on the shoulder and tell him I thought he was an idot. However, my husband replied, "Please don't, cause then I will have to defend you when he gets mad." I held my tongue.

It was a fun weekend though. We left Belle for the first time overnight... that was a biggie for me. I was so anxious to get home to her. She survived without us though and I think she actually had more fun at grandma & big poppy's house than she would have at home. When she is at home, she has "alone" time where I just let her be by herself and be content. But I am fairly confident that kid didn't see the ground the entire 36 hours. :) But we are all home safe and sound now. It was enjoyable to get away for a while, but it is good to be home. (Geesh. I sound old!)

It is finished!

After starting to chrochet this blanket 3.5 years ago... I finally finished it this week. I think I had about 3/4 of it done before I even moved to Iowa City. And then I forgot about it. I picked it back up this winter and I was working on the rest of the yarn that I had already bought. I was hoping to keep going, but then somewhere in the last 3 years, Walmart discontinued the color of yarn that I had! Bummer!

Note to self: When starting a large project like this, buy all my materials at the beginning in case it takes me several years to finish it! :)

This is how we are battling high gas prices...

I think I am getting old. No, I know I am getting old. Motorcycles now scare me a little. Not that I don't love them anymore, but I have a little one who depends on my and I have my hubby who I depend on myself. I would just like it to stay that way. I watched too many reruns of ER where they said they called motorcycles donorcycles. Anyway, if anyone wants to comment, that is great. However, please keep all your horror stories to yourself. I have heard enough for the week.

It is not as easy as it looks.

I tried Pilates yesterday. Wow. That was an experience. We are storing a friend's dvds at our house and I noticed this one was on top. I decided to give it a whirl. Only minutes in I closed the blinds in our living room because I didn't want anyone seeing me stumble around the room and trying to strech in ways that my body does not bend. Half way through the video (after I was all warmed up and getting into it), Belle woke up and I had to go feed her and change her diaper. 20 minutes later I came back down, set her on the floor and attempted to keep going. My daughter, however, thought that I was going to play with her. I mean...seriously. "Mom, you are on the floor rolling around grunting slightly and you are not going to play with me!" That lasted about 7 minutes. Just long enought to finish the leg excercises. Anyway. I am humbled. The lady on the front cover was holding her legs up at a 45 degree angle and I thought to myself, "Anyone could do that." Well, I can't. At least not now. I am hoping to keep this up to build strength, tone and to strech myself (literally!).

Try this: Sit on the floor with your legs straight out in front of you. Flex your feet (toes pointed towards the ceiling) and try to sit straight up. Hold that for awhile... and let me know how it goes!

In sleepiness & awake time...

Anyone else sleep walk? I have had roomates in the past who have slept walk and I think I did once when I was a kid. However, I married into a family that sleep walks! Since Jason has gotten out of the hospital, things have been much more active. ( We blame pretty much anything on the meds now a days! ) This is what happend last night:

11:45pm - Leah wakes to Jason walking around the bed, headed for the wall.

Leah: "Jason!"
Jason: "Yeah?"
Leah: "Come back to bed."
Jason: (He kneels down on the floor) "I am building a headboard and some shelves."
Leah: "No, you are sleepwalking. Come back to bed"
Jason: (As he walks back around to bed.) "You don't believe me!" (slightly miffed!)
Leah: "No I don't. You were sleepwalking."

We both eneded up apologizing later as we were not very nice to eachother. But it is a scary thing. I wake up to someone walking around in the dark in our room. I am not sure if my nerves have hightened since I have had a kid or what. But the minute he gets out of bed and starts walking around (about a month or two ago, he was reaching down around his knees near the wall and stated he was looking for the light switch) I try to stay calm and get him to wake up asap.

Phew!

For someone who isn't intimidated by much,

I am scared to death of the bus. I am not sure what it is. Perhaps that I never had the college experience so I didn't have to rely on public transportation. Maybe it is because my mind practically goes nuts thinking about all the germs. I am not sure, but the biggest reason, I think, is because it is so overwhelming to me. Too many numbers, times, transfers, ect that make my head spin. Due to recent gas costs, Jason and I have been talking about alternative options. Buses, biking, motorcycles. And while I really would like the last option best... that might not be for us right now. I think we are going to take a family outing here shortly and Jason is going to go with me on the bus and show me the ropes.

We will see how this goes. Stay tuned for part II of this story.

Oh yeah, and to think of taking a 7 month old with me.... woa! SCARY!

When they say to brush with a soft toothbrush,

they aren't kidding.

I went to the dentist today and told them about my tooth that when I eat pure sugar (i.e. frosting)- it is on fire. They told me that it happens to people who use hard or medium toothbrushes. You can actually brush away your gum... bummer. And it is never to return.

I am now convinced. I will use soft toothbrushes for the rest of my life. Here was the conversation that I had with the dentist today:

Leah : "I guess I just figured that the harder I brushed, the cleaner my teeth would get."
Dentist: "Yes, for most of life that is true, but we try to take it easy on living tissue."
Leah: "Oh right."

I bought 17 pints of blueberries today.

I was at Aldi today buying groceries and came across the fruit aisle. Usually I just roar through there as I am not a fan of the quality of fruit that they sell. However, last week I tried some strawberries for really cheap and they weren't bad. So, I was getting another package of them when I saw the blueberries for sale. I looked up and they were $1.29 per pint! I called my mom to verify that it was a good price and she said it was. I offered to pick her up some and she said , "Um, yes, I will take 12!". I had already planned to buy 4 or 5 (cause they freeze great!). (Sorry IC girls.. I took most of what remained in the store... otherwise I would have sent it out to ya'll to let you know about it.) I loaded up my cart and sheepishly drove through the store and began to check out. It did create a conversation with the lady checking me out. Anyway, that is done.

That reminds me of another story at Aldi. Once a guy bought so many things his cart was overflowing by about 5 feet. I am not kidding. You can buy in bulk here and just take the boxes out with you. He had stacked so many boxes in his cart that he couldn't get through the door. That my friends is planning ahead.

This whole Aldi conversation (and Dana's blog) reminded me of grocery shopping with Belle when she was only a month or two old. She was screaming her head off and I was trying to empty my own cart, pay for the groceries and then bag my own groceries. There were a ton of people there just staring. To say the least... I was stressed out. Finally we were both in the car with all the groceries and I vowed that if I ever saw a mom struggling with groceries (particularly at Aldi... their groceries are cheap... but not huge on the customer service... but I am thankful!) I would jump in and offer to help at any time. A month or two ago there was a mom with three little kids running around and a 6 month old screaming because he was hungry. To top it off, there was about a 6 person wait to check out. She was slowly emptying her cart with one hand while holding the crying child and correcting the other three kids. I had left Belle with my mom for a bit while I ran some errands. Once they had paid for everything, this lady was trying to tell her kids how to pack the groceries. "Cold stuff in here... no, the eggs can't go in the bottom of that card, careful with the glass jar..." I walked over and asked her if I could pack her groceries for her. She smiled and stopped and said..."YES! If you don't mind!" I didn't at all. I quickly packed up her groceries and they were on their way.

Yeah for moms who brave the grocery store with children, or when it is raining... that is a kicker.

Peace.

Our church had a belching contest yesterday...

and I won.

Good thing I am already married!

Years ago, back when he lived in the dorms, Jason used to tell people he would never marry a woman that burped.

Years ago, back when I hung out in the dorms, I used to tell people "Jason Rohlf is off my list...cause I like to burp out loud!"

Yeah for lots of years praying, growing up and a God who has a sense of humor!
