Correction: We have MICE in our house!

IMG_0839.JPG

I can't believe I am staying in my house right now. Although, I was gone all day while Jason was at work. We came home last night from church to find my oven mittens all chewed up and mouse poop in the drawer. We set a trap in the kitchen and one down the basement (where we found the first dead mouse). Jason came in this morning and told me that we had got a mouse in the kitchen. He also said I should wash the floor in front of the fridge and cabinets with bleach because the mouse had bled all over the floor. Yuck. He came home at lunch (I stayed at my parents house all day) and checked the traps again. The one in the basement had no peanut butter on it, but it had snapped without catching the mouse. He reset it and came home after work and checked it again. This time the peanut butter was still in place, however the trap was sprung again and it had moved about 2 feet. This mouse (who I have affectionately named Lucifer and we will call Lucy if it is a girl) also chewed through a brand new cook book that I had in the basement. We went to Walmart tonight and bought four traps and mouse poisoning for the garage. Three are set in the basement and another one in the kitchen. Hopefully this night will end with all the living critters in my house dead!!!

EAK!

growing up in an old farm house we would naturally get mice in our house. one time we had one jump out of our couch at us. the worst mouse experience i've had was when i was doing laundry in our back room, i was stepping down and i felt something squishy under my foot, i picked it up and saw something dark and brown running away, it was a mouse. thankfully i was wearing socks but i did still go and wash my foot.

According to this article from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel (http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=402516), apparently we have a glut of mice because of the warmer than average winter we've had to this point. With the deep freeze we just had, the mice are now looking for a place to stay warm. From what I hear, we've had the same problem at my office. Maybe it's that part of Iowa City...*shrugs*
