Reason #456 for not picking your nose...
Again, this might not be a typical "Leah" post, but I need some insight here. As we were discussing this topic last night, I decided it would make a good blog entry as I could hear from other people and their thoughts.
Here is my situation that has been argued and no conclusions have been made. When is it ok to pick your nose? Of course not in public...that is a given. But where is "public"? How about driving in a car? Not a big deal you might think. I however, think that public is when you are in the car. People CAN still see you!! Yesterday I was waiting at a light in town and looked in my rear view mirror. I realized I knew this person and had my hand on it's way up in the air to wave at them. However, just then they started to pick their nose. I quickly dropped my hand and decided to wait and see what happened. They stopped, but then quickly switched hands and tilted their head to the side to get a good angle. Wow. I am still not sure what to do when they changed hands and fingers again and that moment I started sinking in my seat hoping that they didn't recognize me car. Maybe they wouldn't be embarassed...but I sure was! And I was trying to imagine myself in their shoes. I had just been digging for gold and a friend decides to start waiving. Oh my gosh, that would be horrible! In light of that, I quickly drove off and decided to share this story with my husband last night. Which promted our conversation...(one that I have had with others as well). When is it ok to pick your nose? Should one always use a kleenex? That is my opinion, but I have noticed not everyone agrees with me. Are there occations when it is ok and then when it is not???
Do share your thoughts...

Is it ever appropriate to pick your nose?
Gross!

in private, where people can't witness and chastise you for using your bare finger, I say do whatever. in public, I'd say a kleenex is required equipment, making sure to use the shielding of the other hand over the nose as to hide use of the finger. in my opinion, 'digging for gold' is most reccomendable after having blown one's nose, when there may be loose bits still inside the nose that: a) you can feel and can be quite distracting, and b) may be visible to innocent bystanders (which is gross!).

Leah, just so you know, I saw that it was you in the car in front of me. :P

Reason #458: Why I hate to shake hands with people!!
***Because they could have been picking their nose in their car right before they walked up to me.***
I think it's funny that we are so diligent to wash our hands after using the bathroom, but no one really thinks to wash their hands after they blow or pick their nose. In my opinion, there are likley just as many, if not more, germs passed by the bugar pickers shaking hands with people.
My recommendation to you all: Avoid using 'public' pens at banks and stores and avoid shaking hands during the flu season. People are digging for *gold* all the time and who knows what they touched last! In The Sixth Sense movie it would have been just as scary if he had said:
"I see dead bugars!!"

Something to ponder, but not an endorsement of any kind:
1. Adam and Eve did not have access to Kleenex, Puffs, or any other random brand of tissues - only leaves - hopefully they knew which ones were poison ivy & oak. : ))
a. Now, by God's grace, we have tissues.
2. God created fingers, fingernails, and expandable nostrils.
3. Since no direct reference to handling this situation is seen in the Bible, we have to apply principle, but which one:
a. taking care of urgent business that needs taken care of, no matter what day it is (picking grain on the Sabbath for food) OR
b. all of the one another verses OR
c. do unto others ... oh, wait a minute... I think I need to stop here, cuz I think this one only applies to mothers - soon, Leah, soon! ; )) (Thank God for infant bugar bulbs!!)
