What they don't tell you about being pregnant:
Here is my verse that I am holding onto!
"Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will foryou in Christ Jesus."
~1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
The past 5 or 6 weeks have been pretty rough. Gone are the days when I thought pregnancy was about wearing cute clothes and looking "motherly". Yes, I know I'm weird! :)
I don't think I can explain morning sickness. I "heard" my mom say that she would throw up 15 times a day for several months with each of us kids. However, I don't think the reality of that kicked in until I started getting sick. And I won't try to explain it to any of you. Just be thankful if you don't ever have to share your morning sickness symptoms with your doctor!
Here are a few things that I never knew about before I was pregnant:
-Sleeping through the night, somehow I took this for granted! I had heard that once the baby is big enough it presses on your bladder and you have to go to the bathroom more often. But at 2 or 3 months pregnant???? I get up between 2-4 times a night to use the bathroom. Bummer.
-Crying, yes, I know I am an "emotional" person. But when I am crying and I tell my husband, "Honey, I haven't cried in a few days!" as I am proud of my accomplishment. He gently responds with "Um.. you cried yesterday." Oh yeah... I forgot.
-Smells, I can't stand to smell food or anything else that has a strong scent. Gone are the days of flavored lotions and body sprays. Everything is "regular" scent at our house now a days.
-Tiredness, how can taking a load of laundry to the washer and walking back be tiring you ask? I have no idea. I am still trying to figure this one out.
-Clothes, ever have those days when you look in your closet and you think you have nothing to wear? Yeah, I used to think that too. Now I really don't have anything to wear! Normal clothes don't fit and maternity clothes look dumb. Too bad it isn't the winter and I could just wear sweat pants all day long!
-Loss of brain cells, I am not kidding about this. So many times I start a sentence and can't finish it because I forgot what I was saying. Or.. the other day I tried to exit through the "enter" door at Target. I couldn't figure out why my friend stopped walking a few steps behind me. She said, "Leah, we have to use the exit door." Oh...right.
Don't get me wrong though, I am finding myself becoming quite attached to this little kiddo. We had an ultrasound on Saturday and it was awesome. The nurse stayed with us for a good 15 minutes. She was able to wake the baby up and it was squirming around and wiggling its arms and legs. Pretty cute. We got to see the heart beat and at one angle even saw the features of the face. Technology is pretty cool.
We just hit the 3-month mark this week. Here is an update from babycenter.com about the little one.
"How your baby's growing: Your baby's hit the 2-inch mark (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce. Her face is beginning to look more human. Her eyes, which started out on the sides of her head, have moved closer together on her face, and her ears are near their final positions on the sides of her head. Your baby's intestines, which have grown so rapidly that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into her abdominal cavity about now. Her kidneys are secreting urine into her bladder. Her nerve cells have been multiplying rapidly, and synapses (neurological pathways in the brain) are forming. Your baby may have acquired more reflexes by now, including sucking, and she'll even squirm if you prod your abdomen, though you still won't be able to feel her movement for several weeks."
Wow.

Just hope Jason never decides to eat a whole clove of garlic while you are pregnant. When Tony did that, I came the closest I have ever come to making him sleep on the couch! It just shows my deep love for him that I let him stay in bed even though the smell made me want to puke all the time!
My tip on clothes would be to try and borrow/buy really cheap (like garage sale or thrift store) clothes that are not maternity clothes but are a a couple sizes too big.
I got through the "in between" phase by wearing clothes that I had saved from when baggy clothes were in style. Thankfully I never listened to the people who say not to save things because they never are useful again. My shirts and pants I had stuck in a box because they were "too big and baggy" were perfect for pregnancy.
Also, if you haven't checked out a lot of maternity clothes yet, one of the best kinds of maternity jeans are a kind that doesn't have the big "pouch" on the front but instead just has a narrower band of elastic. Those are perfect for when you are just barely starting to show. Inf fact, I couldn't wear mine after about 6 months. Good jeans are one of the few things I would reccommend investing money in for maternity clothes -- at least one pair for early on and one pair for later on. Borrow or buy used all your other clothes, but you will probably thank yourself later if you invest the $20-$30 to buy a pair of jeans you really like,

See, this is why I do not like the pregnancy part but love giving birth and the kiddos. At least the giving birth part you know won't last longer than a few days even in worst case scenario, :)! AND HEY!!! In case I forget again to tell you, I have some cute transition clothes if you wanna check them out! YOU CAN DO IT LEAH! You're doing great! Love, Dana Marie

Oh, the same style (with just the narrow band of elastic or stretchy material on top) applies to capri pants and shorts too...since it just ocurred to me that's what you really need in this kind of weather! :)

So have you had any weird dreams. I remember having very detailed and strange dreams when I was pregnant. Also, strangly enough I prophesized a famous person's death the night before he died. That really freaked me out. I had seen Danny Thomas (an old actor) on David Letterman right before I went to bed. As I fell asleep I thought to myself, "Danny Thomas is going to die tomorrow" And then thinking how weird that was to think that, that I almost woke my husband up to tell him, but I didn't.
The next day I was cooking dinner listening to the news and the news anchor said "Danny Thomas died today." I dropped the pan I was holding and had to sit down. I kept thinking, I should have tried to call him last night...as if I knew how to get ahold of him.
That was the oddest thing that happened to me when I was pregnant.
My advice, don't watch Letterman before bed.

i forgot to mention the dreams. it is almost a morning ritual for jason to come in right before he leaves for work and i share my weird dreams with him. usually there are 2-3 different ones all in one night.
