The last day or two there has been this lingering stench of sewege in Black Engineering. Once or twice I've been walking down the hall hesitantly sniffing at it. It's a faint, sweet smell. The first wiff it's subtle, inviting you to take a larger inhalation. So you do. Then your nose crinkles, the corner of your lip curls up. What the heck were you thinking - that reeks. Sounds a little like sin, huh?
Last semester I took a Fundamental of Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning course. It was in Pearson Hall, where there's some construction going on. Outside is a port-a-potty. [Hilarious side comment - my grandfather used to run a septic tank business and had a big truck with this slogan on the side of the tank: "Your S--- Is Our Bread & Butter". My uncle picked up his prom date in that truck. Supposedly there's a picture of it floating around somewhere, I've gotta find a copy! Also, you ever notice in the Back to the Future movies the manure trucks are owned by D. Jones Manure Hauling...coincidence?.] One day we're sitting in class with the windows open, and the smell of sewege is strong. Finally *Mike raises his hand and asks if we can close the windows. The professor says, "Oh, I just thought somebody had some problems..."
As I was walking down the hall this morning, I couldn't help but sniff my own fleece as I was walking down the hall. If it's a lingering smell, what if it's me?
It's not.
*Name not changed
A week or two ago I interviewed with a custom manufacturing company in Urbandale. The interview went fairly well, but I mildy expected not to get much interest from them after that.
This morning they called back because they wanted to know my salary requirements, and to let me know the president of the company would most likely be setting up an interview with me this next week. Sweet.
That this would be my prayer as well...
Keep your servant also from
willful sins;
may they not rule over me.
Then will I be blameless,
innocent of great transgression.
May the words of my mouth
and the meditation of
my heart
be pleasing in your sight,
O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.
