As you may very well know - I am looking for a full time job. One of my prospective companies offers some amazing benefits, including "Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance". That's a keeper. Imagine going home and saying, "Hey honey this job is great! I even get dismemberment insurance! If my arm gets cut off, I can still get paid! 'Course, that's only if it happens at work. If me and the boys are just out screwing 'round we're in big trouble.".
This is going to be a pretty busy week. On top of normal school work I've got a MATLAB program to write to solve a heat transfer problem. I don't really know MATLAB too well, so this may be a long week. I've also got a job interview tomorrow morning with a custom manufacturing company in Des Moines. Pray that it goes well!

In 2nd Timothy, Paul is writing to Timothy from prison. He reminds Timothy of his spiritual heritage - that his grandmother and mother both had a sincere faith. [Were his father and grandfather just bums?] Because Paul is convinced that Timothy has that same sincere faith, this is his instruction:
For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline.
2 Tim 1:6-7
Awesome spiritual truth there about the Holy Spirit. I need to remind myself of that truth regularly. How do we fan into flame the gift of God? The gift of God he's refering to is the Holy Spirit. The deeper our connection with God, the brighter our flame burns. We fan it into flame through prayer to the only true God, and meditating and studing on His Word (both Christ and scripture). There other other things too, but I think these two are vital. When we fan that fire into burning flame (much like the bonfire at Dougs...licking the highest branches of the surrounding trees thirty feet up) we will have the power, and love, and self-discipline Paul is talking about.
PS - My heat transfer program has nothing to do with this flame...
Heather,
No talent? You say you can't teach talent. Well, it's a good thing, because I don't know if its possible to improve upon this! I completed this masterpiece in only 45 minutes. Some artists take days to finish their artwork!

PS - I think my co-workers were kinda confused to see me drawing this. Aand the girl who came up to check a book out while I was drawing...I just couldn't keep a straight face when I asked her if she needed help...
I'm getting close to graduation and starting to wonder which of these will be me?
The graduate with a Science degree asks, "Why does it work?"
The graduate with an Engineering degree asks, "How does it work?"
The graduate with an Accounting degree asks, "How much will it cost?"
The graduate with an Arts degree asks, "Do you want fries with that?"

Who is this girl?
What is she doing?
Hint - that's my door
We all made it back from Cape Fair in one piece, if anyone is wondering. It was quite a good trip. Some of the highlights:
▫Not getting lost on the way there.
▫Deciding not to follow through with our idea - keep driving to the Gulf of Mexico after picking up Amy.
▫Sleeping late on Saturday and eating a big breakfast on the porch.
▫Renting a boat and spending the afternoon fishing.
▫Catching a fish and eating it for dinner (along with some amazing chili dogs). Tasty.
▫The Money Pit.
▫Leaving Cape Fair at 8am and getting back to Ames at 3:30pm - just in time for me to be at work at 4pm.

You know you're getting old when you doing recognize anyway in the ME computer lab...where you used to know everybody...
Set that to the tune of "Going to Miami". "Going to Missouri, Cape Fair is the city that you know don't sleep!"
Destination: Cape Fair, MO
Distance: 481.3 miles - one way.

Chris, Ross, and myself are going fishing. And to visit Amy. See ya on Sunday!
Have you ever wondered why we call The Rock, The Rock? This morning I read in Matthew where Jesus talked about the rock.
Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.
Matthew 7:24-27 NIV
What words was he refering to? The Sermon on The Mount - Matthew 5:3-7:27. It struck me that we build our lives upon Christ and his word, which is like a rock, a strong foundation. We all know of people who have built their houses on sand and weak foundations, only to see them be destroyed when the storms come. Foundations can be rebuilt, but it takes a lot of work. It's so much better to be built upon that foundation from the beginning...or at least early on. I think that is why college ministry is vital to building the kingdom of God.
