Not much witty inspirations...

...so I thought that I would just share a couple verses that I've read in the past couple of days.

"Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules." -Colossians 2:20

"I have set the Lord always before me.
Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken." -Psalm 16:8

"No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs--he wants to please his commanding officer." -2 Tim 2:4

I've been thinking a lot about truly setting my sights on the Lord and what will please him in and about my life. I wish I had it figured out....that I lived a life full of discipline, and that I was able to focus solely on him and not be distracted by the things of this world.

I'm working on the approach used by Alcoholics Anonymous -- one day at a time. What do I have to do today to fulfill God's will in my life? The basic answer is:

"This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers." -- I John 3:16

and:

"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her." Eph. 5:25

I have to lay down my life everyday. How do I do that? By denying myself for the benefit of someone else -- my wife and the brethren.

It comes down to choices on a moment by moment basis. Failing to make the right choices leads to regret. Like Neil Young ("Differently") says, "I would have done some things differently.... Like trying to make you feel loved every day...I would appreciate the things that you bring to me....Saying little things to let you know how I feel."

And when I get discouraged or lose heart, I fix my eyes on Jesus and consider him -- Hebrews 12:2-3.

Have you ever read "The Ragamuffin Gospel"?

Actually, I haven't.
